My journey as a cook on an Alaskan charter bear hunting boat. Having worked at a desk for 25+ years, I knew it was time for a change. Praying for a new direction in my career became a daily ritual. And then one day, an opportunity is handed to me, a chance to put my cooking/baking skills to the test by becoming the cook on the boat, BEAR out of Sitka, Alaska. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this.

WelI I've been in Alaska one month. Hard to believe. Today we are headed out to the ocean and will be going through 2 hours of rough water. Everything has been taken off the kitchen counters and put on the floor. Fridges are taped shut and so are the cabinet doors. Oh my, oh my. They even brought out a puke bucket for someone to use if needed or if they can get to the back deck they could toss their cookies overboard. Whoowoo.....hang on we're in for a doozy! Will catch you on the flip side. :-) I'm back, we had to turn back thank goodness, Brad made the decision to anchor into a side cove and try again in the early morning when the waves are supposed to be calmer. So we will try again tomorrow. oh boy.
The new hunters are out with the guides, we'll see how it goes. One is from Nebraska and the other from Kansas. Alaska is the wild west for them and hunting bear up here is quite the adventure. Fed them a good dinner, have their evening soup on the stove and trying to figure out if I could make some breakfast muffins to have on hand. Not sure when we will be able to fix breakfast so thought maybe something else would be nice to have. Oh and this is the first day with my hubby on board and guess what he's doing? Sitting out on the back deck, feet up on the railing and a fishing pole in the water trying to find a halibut. Seems to be a very happy camper. So nice having him here and he was a huge help yesterday getting the groceries loaded onto the boat and helping Brad do some things. I love him. Okay, all done being sappy. Will let you know if he finds the halibut he's looking for but I'm not holding my breath. I've only seen whales and porpoises in this water soooooo, be ready for the big one!
