My journey as a cook on an Alaskan charter bear hunting boat. Having worked at a desk for 25+ years, I knew it was time for a change. Praying for a new direction in my career became a daily ritual. And then one day, an opportunity is handed to me, a chance to put my cooking/baking skills to the test by becoming the cook on the boat, BEAR out of Sitka, Alaska. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this.

Goood evening folks. We have safely landed at our destination, thank you for flying with Bradford Boats......okay, we didn't actually fly but we might have caught some air on a few of those waves. What a ride. No one got sick so that was a huge plus and nothing broke. We are now anchored in a small cove situated on the west side of Chichagof Island. The scenery is different than on the other hunts, the shoreline is very rocky with less meadows for the bears to wander around and eat. So the skiffs are out hunting again until dark. Soup is on the stove and dessert is in the fridge. They had crab for dinner, which they loved. I made some teriyaki chicken for Brad and myself. Neither one of us are big fans of crab.
Did I mention how much I love having Byron here with me? He seems to be having a good time too, fished a little bit yesterday, took a nap today, had some crab, he's just a happy camper.
I sure miss all my kids. Those sweet grandbabies, well, I realize the girls aren't actually babies but they will always be my sweet grandbabies to me. And the little guys are too funny. The littlest is already trying to sit up, it helps that he has a budha belly in front too. So I am looking forward to the month off when I can come home and enjoy all of them.
